--- The New Robert D. Walter West Campus Initiative ---
For the first time in its 89-year history, St. Charles Preparatory School will expand its current Broad Street campus footprint.

To be known as the "Robert D. Walter West Campus," this project's centerpiece will be the newly-purchased 6.2 acre site at the corner of Long St. and Nelson Rd., formerly the Dealers Lumber Co. The project includes a new track, practice field, parking lot and weight-training facility. An additional 46-space parking area will be built on a parcel of donated land along the west bank of Alum Creek. To provide more convenient access between Main Campus and the new West Campus facilities, a 180 ft. long pedestrian bridge will be installed to span Alum Creek.

We invite you to commemorate the Feast of our patron, St. Charles Borromeo, on Friday, November 4, 2011. Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Frederick Campbell and concelebrated by alumni and guest priests starting at 11:40 a.m. in the Robert C. Walter Student Commons. As always, the students, faculty and staff, parents, alumni and special guests will be on hand. The liturgy will be followed by the presentation of the school’s highest honors:

Dr. Tedd Ellerbrock ’64 will be awarded The Borromean Award for Outstanding Achievement to recognize his career work to combat global HIV/AIDS that has directly affected the lives of over a million people.

John (Class of 1978) and Linda Mackessy will receive The Borromean Medal for Distinguished Service for their long-time support and commitment to the St. Charles community. They have generously honored the memory of Monsignor F. Thomas Gallen (“Monz”) with gifts to his endowment fund as well as their patronage of his Music Room; unselfishly served for two highly-successful years as chairs for Parent’s Annual Fund; and for their years of involvement in support of so many parents’ and alumni activities.

The Principal’s Award for Leadership and Service to St. Charles will be presented to William “Bill” Riat for work on every major transformative design and construction project that the school has successfully completed over the last 10 years, including Cardinal Circle and landscaping of the Broad Street entryway; the Robert C. Walter Student Commons and Student Services & Fine Arts Center; the Walt Plank Field project and its accompanying athletic complex upgrades; and most recently, his tireless efforts in helping bring the Robert D. Walter West Campus expansion initiative to fulfillment.

Please come help us honor these deserving alumni and join us afterward for a light lunch reception in the Campus Theatre’s Cavello Center.

--- 2012 Reunion Planning Underway ---
In early October alumni director Louis J. Fabro ’83 sent survey letters to all those celebrating reunions this year.
The 2011 Combined Class Reunion Celebration to be held August 9-11, 2012 for the Classes of 1962 (Golden),
1967, 1972, 1977, 1981, 1986 (Silver), 1991, 1996, and 2001.

The role of the survey letter was to identify those who would like to volunteer to be a part of their reunion planning committee and which weekend activities they would like to see organized. Volunteers play a vital role in making the weekend event a success! Besides preparing a golf outing or formal dinner, volunteers help to directly contact classmates during the planning cycle. This personal one-to one/classmate-to-classmate dynamic is THE KEY to a
good turnout. If you have not received a survey letter and would like to volunteer your help please contact Louis by e-mail at lfabro@cdeducation.org  or by phone at 614-252-9288 ext. 21.

Louis will organize a general meeting for all class reunion organizational committee members in December.

Tentative Plans for the 2012 Summer Reunion Celebration include:
On Thurs., August 9, members of the Classes of 1962 and 1967 are invited to participate in the 6th annual St. Charles-Aquinas College High School Golf Challenge at Riviera C.C. in Dublin.

The weekend’s Main Event will take place on Friday night: The All-Classes Stag “Beer-n-Brats” campus gathering from 6:00 - 11:00 p.m. in the Robert C. Walter Student Commons. Class photos will be taken, Principal Dominic J. Cavello
’64 will give a “State of the School” update and campus tours will be provided.

On Saturday there will be a morning bike ride offered along the Alum Creek Bike Trail and alumni of all ages will be invited to play in the 3rd annual Ralston Memorial Golf Outing. A campus tour will be held from 2:15-3:45 and an All-Classes Mass will be held in Mother of Mercy Chapel at 4:00 p.m. for alumni & spouses/guests. Classes organize their own private activities around these collective events. This allows several formal and informal opportunities to meet with your to reminisce about special teachers, deceased friends, and the athletic and academic challenges you overcame together as classmates.

Contact Louis at lfabro@cdeducation.org to join your class’ reunion committee of to answer any questions you might have.

--- 2010-2011 Annual Fund Update ---

This year’s Annual Fund goal is to raise $1.5 million from alumni, parents of current students, and parents of SC alumni. The school is blessed this year with the continued leadership of Alumni Fund chairman Paul Heller of the Class of 1982 and new Parents Fund Chairpersons Drs. Ken and Kathy Lutter.

The money raised by the Alumni Annual Fund will be used for need-based tuition assistance, day-to-day school operations, maintenance of buildings and grounds, technology program improvements, and faculty recruitment and retention programs. Funds raised by the Parents Annual Fund will be used for the construction of the Robert D. Walter West Campus which will include additional practice and competition areas, including a new track for all Cardinal
athletic teams; a new conditioning and weight facility; additional parking for students and special campus events;
and a pedestrian bridge providing access between it and Main Campus.

A heartfelt thank-you to all who have made a gift thus far and also to those who are considering Annual Fund support!
