Combined Class Reunion Celebration Details and History
With the addition of the beautiful Robert C. Walter Student Commons in June 2006, St. Charles was inspired to establish
a new reunion format. Each reunion class now shares together in a single formal Saturday afternoon program that includes campus tours; an all-class Mass celebrated by alumni priests in Mother of Mercy Chapel; a “State-of-the-School” presentation by school principal Dominic J. Cavello '64, a reception, class photos, and a buffet dinner in Walter Student Commons.
The atmosphere created by five decades of Cardinal alumni joining together is very special and the camaraderie shared amongst graduates has been an inspiring and uplifting experience.
Classes do organize their own private activities around the collective Saturday program. These allow several chances to meet as an individual class with only their classmates and guests present. It also affords many formal and informal opportunities to reminisce about special teachers, deceased friends, and the athletic and academic challenges you overcame together as classmates.
A survey sent in September seeks to identify those who wish to volunteer to be a part of their reunion committee and planning weekend activities. Alumni can be a tremendous help by doing one or all of the following: volunteering to serve on the reunion committee; providing/confirming their current contact information for future reunion communications; and indicating what activities alumni would like to see planned for the weekend.
The success of the event is dependent on a strong representation of alumni from each class. By volunteering to be a part of the class’ organizational committee, alumni will help play a vital
role in making the weekend event a success! The main role volunteer helpers will play is to directly contact several classmates on one or two occasions during the planning cycle. This personal one-to one/classmate-to-classmate dynamic is THE KEY to a good turnout.
The formal Saturday program (tours, Mass, class photos, reception, and dinner) is organized by the school's alumni director who also helps to organize (if necessary) each class’ committee and to work with each group to coordinate their activity planning leading up to the reunion. The director also prints, assembles, affixes postage, and mails each piece of reunion correspondence at no cost to the class.
