How to Make a Gift
Giving to St. Charles
Charitable support to St. Charles enhances the many programs, equipment and facilities on the campus, providing a better atmosphere for students, teachers and others in the St. Charles community. Through the generosity of alumni, parents and friends, St. Charles is able to continue the vision of Bishop James J. Hartley in offering "a fundamentally sound preparation for adult Catholic/Christian life." There are many ways to make a gift to St. Charles. The following are various vehicles for giving. Please contact the Development Office at(614)252-9288 if you have further questions.
Outright Gifts: Gifts to the school made by check or credit card.
Stock or Securities: Providing gifts of stocks and securities often has favorable specific tax consequences to donors. One can deduct the full market value of long-term appreciated securities and avoid any tax on capital gain. Securities include primarily stocks, bonds, and mutual funds.
Property: Real or personal property may be transferred to the school.
Matching Gifts: Many U.S. companies participate in this program. Check with your HR department to see if this is an option.
Unrestricted Gifts: These allow St. Charles to cover the costs of critical services not entirely funded by other support.
Restricted Gifts: These gifts benefit specific programs of your choosing, such as a named scholarship fund, endowed faculty position, or endowment devoted to a specific academic or athletic program.
Bequests: St. Charles alumni, friends of St. Charles such as parents, grandparents, siblings and spouses, are encouraged to remember St. Charles in their will by including the phrase "St. Charles Preparatory School, Columbus, Ohio."
St. Charles can also be named as beneficiary of retirement plans, trusts or life insurance policies. Please consult with legal advisor or financial planner to add this language or schedule an appointment to revise your will.
Class Gifts: In 1923 Bishop James J. Hartley, when he founded St. Charles Borromeo Preparatory School, pledged that no young man who sought a St. Charles education would be denied admission because his family could not afford the tuition.
Through the generosity of class gifts, St. Charles alumni continue to meet the growing financial need of the students. More On Class Gifts
