What’s New(s) with St. Charles Alumni?” on SC Facebook Page

St. Charles alumni director Louis J. Fabro ’83 is looking for items to post in the “April” installment of What’s New(s) with St. Charles Alumni?” on the St.Charles Facebook page. Visit the post at: https://www.facebook.com/stcharlespreparatoryschool

Our goal by adding this monthly post is to share fun, positive and inspiring alumni updates and photos in a more timely manner as “the Cardinal” alumni magazine is only published once a year. We’ll keep our eyes open here at school… but Louis invites and encourages alumni, parents and friends to e-mail him at lfabro@cdeducation.org  with photos and items you learn about a work promotion or recognition, career move or accomplishment, a wedding or the birth of a child, a well-earned retirement, a son’s first job out of college, a classmate’s recognition for service to his church and community…we want to hear about it and share it with everyone else!

Drama Department to Present Spring Musical WORKINGMay 1st through 4th

The St. Charles Preparatory Drama Department will present its spring musical, Working, May 1, 2 & 3 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 4 at 3:00 p.m. at the Campus Theater. Adult tickets are $10.00, students, $5.00. This is the fourth time St. Charles has produced the show. Previous productions were in 1989, 1996, and 2005. The creators of the show have updated the script to more accurately reflect the working class of 2014. Reservations may be placed by calling the St. Charles main office at 614-252-6714 between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

WORKING is a vital new musical based on the book by Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Chicago’s Studs Terkel. Newly adapted by Stephen Schwartz (WICKED, PIPPIN and GODSPELL) from the original adaptation by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso, WORKING is the working man’s A CHORUS LINE.  A musical exploration of 26 people from all walks of life, with songs by all-star composers Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Tony Award™ winning Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mary Rodgers, Susan Birkenhead, Stephen Schwartz and Grammy Award™ winning James Taylor.

The updated version (2012) introduces songs and content relevant to the technology-filled world of today (quite different from that of the 1970s). It includes new characters, monologues, and songs addressing aspects of 21st Century work life, such as outsourcing, technology, caregiving and fundraising. This version preserves earlier material that is still relevant to today’s world.

WORKINGcelebrates everyday people in a genuinely funny and touching way.  WORKING fills you with hope and inspiration and is the perfect musical for everyone who has ever worked a day in their lives. Based on the best-selling book of interviews with American workers by Studs Terkel, WORKING explores the American workday from the Monday morning blues to a working person’s pride in having “something to point to.” Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso adapted Working into a stage play, mostly using the original words of some uncommon common men and women.

WORKING is a down-to-earth yet elevating musical that features songs that were also based on real interviews. The music is by Stephen Schwartz, James Taylor, Micki Grant, Craig Carnelia, Mary Rodgers, and Lin Manuel Miranda. WORKING lyrics for the show are by Stephen Schwartz; Micki Grant; Craig Carnelia; James Taylor; Susan Birkenhead; Matt landers and Graciela Daniele, and Lin Manuel Miranda.

In the musical, twenty-six workers, including a parking lot attendant, corporate executive, schoolteacher, gas man, housewife, fireman, waitress, millworker, sailor, etc., sing and talk about their jobs, defining not only their daily round, but their hopes and aspirations as well.

The show opened on Broadway 5/14/1978. Although it had a short run, the musical became popular for regional theatres, colleges, and high schools.

The Annual St. Charles Spaghetti Dinner

              (Note date) Sunday, February 9th

    Volunteers and hungry diners needed!

Tell all your friends!!! The 2014 Spaghetti Dinner is scheduled for Sunday, February 9th, in the school’s Robert C. Walter Student Commons. Dinner will be served from noon until 7 p.m. and all proceeds from the event will go towards supporting student financial aid.

Guests will enjoy a bountiful meal of spaghetti with meatball, salad, rolls, ice cream and a beverage. The dinner is a great bargain! $10.00 for adults; $8.00 for senior citizens; $5.00 for children 4-12; Free for those 3 and under; and $35 for a special family rate (dine-in and immediate family up to six members only, please). Carry out orders will also be available.

The St. Charles Alumni Association – with the expert assistance of Berwick Party House and its owners, the Susi family – will team up with volunteer alumni, friends, students and parents of students to host this event. The St. Charles Concert Band will play from 3-4 p.m. and again from 5-6 p.m. for the enjoyment of diners and volunteers alike.

Would you like to volunteer to work one of the shifts with fellow alumni and friends of St. Charles??? While there is some work involved, it has proven to be an enjoyable time during which you can renew old acquaintances and meet new friends. Best of all, workers receive a free meal!! Shift #1 runs from 11:45 – 2:45 p.m.;   Shift # 2 from 2:30 – 5:15 p.m.; and Shift #3 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. NOTE: While our 2nd shift is almost fully staffed, the 1st shift has numerous openings and the 3rd shift — traditionally the most difficult to staff and in most need of volunteers— has only a handful of volunteers to date.

If you’d like to help or have any questions, please contact Louis J. Fabro ’83 in the Alumni and Development Office by e-mail at lfabro@cdeducation.org

We look forward to seeing you!!!!

After the Spaghetti Dinner on February 9th, what is the next great activity being planned by the St. Charles Alumni Association?

The event, which continues to grow in popularity, includes Mass in Mother of Mercy Chapel at 9:30 a.m. followed by a complimentary buffet breakfast in the Robert C. Walter Student Commons. This year’s guest speaker will be Mr. Paul Reiner, a 1964 graduate of Aquinas College High School and St. Charles alumnus father.

This event is open to alumni and their fathers, alumni fathers and their sons, current students and their fathers, and incoming and prospective 8th grade boys and their fathers. If you would like to sign up, please contact Louis J. Fabro ’83 in the Alumni and Development Office by e-mail at lfabro@cdeducation.org

“What’s New(s) with St. Charles Alumni?” on SC Facebook Page

St. Charles alumni director Louis J. Fabro ’83 has initiated a new monthly feature on the St. Charles Facebook page: “What’s New(s) with St. Charles Alumni?”

Visit the post at: https://www.facebook.com/stcharlespreparatoryschool

Since its first graduating class in 1927, St. Charles has nurtured the minds and hearts of scholars, priests, entrepreneurs, actors, media specialists, stay at home fathers, executive officers, artists, teachers, doctors, legal professionals and community and volunteer leaders. Let’s hear about them!

Five Members of SC Community Receive Recognition

In the month of November, St. Charles recognized four very special members of its community at two separate events:

At the school’s Feast Day Mass, November 4th:

Katy Ryan Paolini was honored with The Borromean Medal for Distinguished Service for her long-time volunteer work with numerous St. Charles events, her ongoing ambassadorial efforts in support of St. Charles and its mission; her leadership throughout both the Campaign for St. Charles (2001-2004) and the construction of The Jack Ryan Student Training and Fitness Facility (1996-1999); and for her decades of service as a grade school teacher and coach.

The Principal’s Award for Leadership and Service to St. Charles was presented to 1979 alumnus and St. Charles Advisory Board member, Robert W. Horner III, to acknowledge the years of leadership he has provided the St. Charles Advisory Board, especially as a past chairman; to honor his generosity in having established the Monsignor Thomas M. Bennett Courtyard and The Monsignor Thomas M. Bennett Scholarship; and for his commitment to the Diocese of Columbus as a member of

several parish and diocesan boards.

At the school’s Thanksgiving Mass, November 22nd:

Timothy M. Hamburger ’84 was recognized with the 2013 Distinguished Alumnus Award in recognition of his highly-successful 24 years of sales and management experience in the healthcare industry. The school also wished to acknowledge his selfless decision to accept the executive director’s role of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Central Ohio Chapter and the commitment he has upheld to raising awareness and donations to fight cancer these past 15 years.  St. Charles also wished to show its sincere appreciation to Tim for having established The Timothy H. Hamburger/Seth A. Jenkins Volunteerism Award and honorarium.

Christopher L. Harvey ’80 was recognized with the 2013 Distinguished Alumnus Award in recognition highly-respected international reputation and professional success he has earned in nearly three decades with J.P. Morgan & Co., currently as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the J.P. Morgan Latin America Private Bank. St. Charles also wished to acknowledge Chris’ generosity to the school, especially through the Campaign for St. Charles as well as his quiet but significant involvement and philanthropic efforts in the community through his work with numerous boards and organizations, especially New Heights.

the Cardinal magazine, supplemental

In the recent edition of the school’s alumni magazine, the Cardinal, there was story about the ‘newly-created’ room in the Jubilee Museum devoted to the former St. Joseph Academy (http://www.stcharlesprep.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/The-Cardinal-Magazine-Fall-2013.pdf  ). Included was a photo and information regarding the theatrical collaboration between St. Charles and St. Joseph Academy on the show, Carnival, in March, 1969. It noted that the production included “leading male roles played by Bob Ryan ’69 and Dennis Hess.” It was shared with us after the Cardinal’s publication that at least two members of the Class of 1970 also had roles in the production and were not mentioned: Christopher McGrath ’70 and Charles Grimm ’70.  McGrath garnered the ‘Best Actor’ Award for his portrayal of ‘Schlegel,’ the carnival’s owner in the production which was co-directed by St. Charles faculty member and Drama Director, Fr. Roger Emmert. If we have left anyone else out, we apologize. Please let us know so that we can share our omission.

In early November, alumni director Louis J. Fabro ’83 will be mailing out a survey letter to all those celebrating reunions this year. Its role is to identify alumni to serve on their class’ reunion planning committee. Volunteers play a vital role in making the weekend event a success! Weekend events will once again include a home St. Charles football game as part of the Friday Night Stag event; a bike ride, campus tours, Mass and private class dinners on Saturday; and the annul Alumni Golf Outing Sunday afternoon.

Louis will organize a general meeting for all class reunion organizational committee members in December. If you would like to represent your class, make sure to return your survey answers or contact him by e-mail at lfabro@cdeducation.org   or by phone at 614-252-9288 ext. 21.

Annual Alumni Golf Outing incorporated into Reunion Weekend;

September 8th event to honor Brian Gilchrist ’83 at Riviera G.C. in Dublin

Don’t get shut out– Reserve your spot today!

Make special plans to join us at this year’s annual Alumni Association Golf Outing

on Sunday, September 8th at Riviera C.C. in Dublin. This scramble event begins with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. An $80 entry fee covers the round of golf, a cart, prizes, and a deluxe picnic dinner. We take reservations for both foursomes AND singles! Space is limited so don’t wait to sign up (first come, first served).

Four years ago the St. Charles Alumni Association initiated a tradition of honoring a St. Charles alumnus who has been greatly involved with and supportive of the school and its community during his lifetime. The previous honorees were Gerard Tracy ’91, Len Iannarino ’58 and Scott Kays ’84. This year the event will honor Brian Gilchrist from the Class of 1983.

Brian, who just passed away on July 14th, had battled cancer for more than two years with  a positive outlook, trust in God and with a deep love of family. Many in the St. Charles community were on hand to encourage and support Brian and his family at the B-Strong Golf Outing in June. As a proud alumnus and father of two Carolians, Brian faithfully attended nearly every alumni association event both before and throughout his illness.   You could always count on seeing the former varsity basketball player at the golf outing, spaghetti dinner and Father/Son Mass and Breakfast. Brian and his family are members of St. Pius Parish and include his wife, Erin, sons Stuart ’09, and SC junior, Noah ’15; daughter Stella (incoming freshman at Bishop Hartley) and two youngest children, Lydia (age 4) and Simon (age 3… class of ’28!). Brian’s father, Michael was a member of the Class of 1957 and his late brother, Michael, was in the Class of 1982.

!!!! At the event you can also advertise your business or honor your class by sponsoring one of the Open’s 18 holes for $100 each. Your information will appear on one of the 18” x 12” tee box signs that will be read by the players. E-mail lfabro@cdeducation.org  to sign up and/or to sponsor a hole.

— The 2013 Combined Class Reunion Celebration will be held the weekend of September 6, 7 & 8 2013 for the Classes of 1963 (Golden), 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988 (Silver), 1993, 1998, 2003 and 2008

A mailing has gone out to all reunion classes detailing the formal events planned by the school and those private activities organized by each class.

Those tentative plans made by the school for the Reunion Celebration include:

Friday night, September 6: The weekend’s Main Event: The All-Classes Stag “Beer-n-Brats” campus gathering from 6:00 – 11:00 p.m. in the Robert C. Walter Student Commons. That evening class photos will be taken and Principal Jim Lower will give a “State of the School” update. Cost will be around $20 (all food and drink included).

Saturday, September 7: There will be a morning bike ride along the Alum Creek Bike Trail starting at 9:00 a.m. and a campus tour from 3:00 – 4:15 p.m. An All-Classes Mass will begin at 4:30 p.m. in Mother of Mercy Chapel for alumni & guests. Afterward, many classes have planned private gatherings for classmates and spouses/significant others at various locations across the city (see those listed by class farther below).

Sunday, September 8: The school’s annual St. Charles Alumni Golf Outing has been incorporated into this weekend and will take place at Riviera C.C. in Dublin. Cost will run approximately $75 a player with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start. Classmates will be paired together in foursomes and arranged in back-to-back groups within the larger fraternal setting of the St. Charles alumni community. This year we are honoring Brian Gilchrist from the Class of 1983 who died on July 14th.

Many classes have tentatively planned private weekend class functions in addition to the formal reunion activities sponsored by St. Charles. These include:

The Class of 1963: Due to personal scheduling conflicts, the class will hold its private class activities the following weekend (September 13-14). All class members are still invited to participate in the formal activities being coordinated at the “Combined” event September 6, 7 & 8.

B-STRONG Golf Outing at Bent Tree G.C.; Saturday, June 22nd

You are invited to be part of the 2nd Annual B-STRONG Golf Outing on Saturday, June 22, at Bent Tree Golf Club in Grove City. This four-person scramble event begins with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. The $100 fee includes a B-STRONG bracelet, green and cart fees, range balls, drinks and dinner.

Proceeds from the event benefit 1983 alumnus/alumni dad and current parent, Brian Gilchrist (battling stage IV colon cancer), his wife Erin, and their children Stuart ’08, Stella, Noah ’15, Lydia (age 4) and Simon (age 3).

In the event’s inaugural year, it raised $11,000 – with 100% of that going to the Gilchrist Family. This year we hope you can help us reach our new goal of $16,000! The event is being put on by his friends and family who state that “living with and battling cancer is an enormous burden and so are the financial pressures of pursuing treatment. Your support can help alleviate this stress for Brian and his family allowing them to focus on facing this fight with courage, with faith and with dignity.”

There are a number of ways you can also participate as a: Title sponsor – $5,000; Beverage/Dinner sponsor – $1,000; Drive/Putt sponsor – $500 or as a hole sponsor – $200.

To sign up your foursomes or to be a sponsor, please visit Bent Tree’s website at http://www.shop.benttreegc.com/ to indicate your participation in the 2013 B-Strong Golf Outing. For those who wish to sign up as a single and be paired in a foursome, you are asked to please contact Ben Boyden by e-mail at sboyden@columbus.rr.com or call 614-496-0272. Dominic Gregory Scholarship Golf Outing at Pinnacle G.C.; Monday, July 1st

The Gregory Family is pleased to announce that the 2nd Dominic Gregory Golf Outing & Benefit Dinner will be held at the Pinnacle Golf Course in Grove City on Monday, July 1, 2013. The scramble event will begin with sign-ins starting at 11:00 a.m. and a noon shotgun start. The Champions Grille will be serving hot dogs and chips starting at 1:00 p.m. A cash bar opens at 4:30 p.m. with a buffet dinner at 5:00 p.m. A silent auction will follow.

Dominic Gregory passed away unexpectedly on October 13, 2010 during his sophomore year at St. Charles. His family established The Dominic Gregory Scholarship Fund through St. Charles. It is meant to help students that may suffer from learning disabilities and who might otherwise not afford the opportunity to learn at St. Charles Preparatory School. Family and friends will never forget Dominic’s great heart, his willingness to help everyone, or his overall love of life.

Cost per player for the outing is $110.00 which includes green fees, snacks and dinner. Also invited are those who don’t golf, but would like to join in for dinner ($45.00).

Payment due by June 10, 2013. There are also several opportunities to serve as an event sponsor. To view the outing’s brochure and get more details on the outing, visit the event’s post on the school’s Home Page at www.stcharlesprep.org.

If you have any outing questions or wish to reserve your person/foursome’s spot, please contact Sam Gregory by e-mail at gregorysk4@aol.com or by phone at (614) 459-5407 or (614) 570-0238.

The 2013 Combined Class Reunion Celebration will be held the weekend of September 6, 7 & 8, 2013 for the Classes of 1963 (Golden), 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988 (Silver), 1993, 1998, 2003 and 2008

As part of the festivities, attendees will also be provided tickets to that night’s Cardinal home football game at 7:30 p.m. against Eastmoor H.S, just a few feet away at Walt Plank Field.

With golf officially built into the weekend, classes need not worry about scheduling it on their own. This will also provide those who have to work Friday — or can’t make it in from out of town until Friday night — an opportunity to participate in an additional weekend event. It is also perfectly fine if an individual class wishes to get together for golf any other time like Friday or Saturday morning.

Many classes have tentatively planned private weekend class functions in addition to the formal reunion activities sponsored by St. Charles. These include:

Class of 1958 will participate in a class golf outing on Friday as well as the other formal school-planned events over the weekend. The planning committee is still determining a location for the class’ private Saturday night dinner.

The Class of 1963: Currently there are no plans for any private class activities following Saturday’s Campus Tour and All-Classes Mass in Mother of Mercy Chapel. Due to personal scheduling conflicts, the class will hold its private class activities the following weekend.

The Class of 1968: Members will hold a private dinner at a classmate’s home on Saturday night.

The Class of 1973: Currently there are no plans for any private class activities following Saturday’s Campus Tour and All-Classes Mass in Mother of Mercy Chapel.

The Class of 1978: On Saturday, classmates will be invited to gather starting at noon at the tailgate of a classmate prior to the Ohio State football game vs. the San Diego State Aztecs. Later that night, following the Campus Tour and All-Classes Mass in Mother of Mercy Chapel, the class will meet at the rectory of St. Catharine’s Church at 6:00 p.m. for a cook-out hosted by classmate Fr. Mike Lumpe.

The Class of 1983: Following Saturday’s Campus Tour and All-Classes Mass in Mother of Mercy Chapel, classmates and their spouses/significant others will meet for dinner at Lindey’s Restaurant in German Village.

The Class of 1988: Following Saturday’s Campus Tour and All-Classes Mass in Mother of Mercy Chapel, classmates and their spouses/significant others will meet at Easton Towne Center starting around 7:30 p.m. for a Class Pub Crawl.

The Class of 1993: Following Saturday’s Campus Tour and All-Classes Mass in Mother of Mercy Chapel, classmates and their spouses/significant others will meet for dinner at the Buckeye Hall of Fame Grill starting around 7:00 p.m.

The Class of 1998: Following Saturday’s Campus Tour and All-Classes Mass in Mother of Mercy Chapel, classmates and their spouses/significant others will gather informally at Bar Louie in the Arena District starting at 7:00 p.m.

The Class of 2003: Following Saturday’s Campus Tour and All-Classes Mass in Mother of Mercy Chapel, classmates and their spouses/significant others will gather informally for cocktails and dinner at Plank’s Café (Parsons Avenue) on the restaurant’s lower level starting at 7:00 p.m.

The Class of 2008: Following Saturday’s Campus Tour and All-Classes Mass in Mother of Mercy Chapel, classmates and their spouses/significant others will gather informally for cocktails and dinner at Plank’s Café (Parsons Avenue ) in its 2nd floor private party room starting at 7:00 p.m.

The Class of 1953 is holding its 60-year reunion on Saturday, June 22, with Mass and tours at the school and dinner at T.A.T. Restaurant that night.

As mentioned previously, final details and reservation information for the September 6-8 reunion weekend events will follow in a July mailing. In the meantime, you are invited to contact alumni director Louis J. Fabro ’83 with questions or to get in touch with your class’s organizational committee at 614-252-9288 (ext. 21) or lfabro@cdeducation.org

It’s time for the Spring Musical! The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

The St. Charles Drama Department is pleased to announce its spring musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Spelling Bee will be presented May 2-4 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 5 at 3:00 p.m. in the St. Charles Campus Theater. Adult Tickets are $10 and students, $5. For reservations, call the main office at 252-6714 between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a hilarious tale of overachievers’ angst chronicling the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. The show’s Tony Award winning creative team has created the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time. Six young people, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.

2013 Class Reunion Planning: Committee meeting being held next week

Alumni director Louis J. Fabro ’83 will be meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 in the Student Service Center’s 2nd floor Conference Room with members

of several reunion classes. He will be discussing the  coordination and  planning for the 2013 Combined Class Reunion Celebration which will take place  on September 6, 7

& 8, 2013 for the Classes of 1963 (Golden), 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988 (Silver), 1993, 1998, 2003 and 2008. Of special note: The Annual Alumni Golf Outing is being scheduled as part of the Weekend!

Tentative plans for the 2013 Summer Reunion Celebration include:

Friday night, September 6: The weekend’s Main Event: The All-Classes Stag “Beer-n-Brats” campus gathering from 6:00 – 11:00 p.m. in the Robert C. Walter Student Commons. As part of the festivities, attendees will also be provided tickets to that night’s Cardinal home football game at 7:30 p.m. against Eastmoor H.S, just a few feet away at Walt Plank Field. That evening class photos will be taken and principal Jim Lower will give a “State of the School” update.

Saturday, September 7: there will be a morning bike ride along the Alum Creek Bike Trail starting at 9:00 a.m., a campus tour from 3:00 – 4:15 p.m. and an All-Classes Mass in Mother of Mercy Chapel at 4:30 p.m. for alumni & spouses/guests.

Sunday, September 8: The annual Alumni Golf Outing has been moved from late September to the reunion weekend. The school will be hosting the event at Riviera C.C. in Dublin and it should run about $75 a player. This way golf is built into the weekend so that classes don’t need to worry about scheduling it on their own. This should benefit those who have to work Friday or don’t make it in from out of town until Friday night can participate. If a class wants to get together any other time … say to golf on Friday or Saturday morning and not participate in the alumni outing …that is perfectly fine, too!

Classes organize their own private activities around these collective events. This will allow several formal and informal opportunities to meet with your to reminisce about special teachers, deceased friends, and the athletic and academic challenges you overcame together as classmates.

Contact Louis at lfabro@cdeducation.org  to join your class’ reunion committee of to answer any questions you might have.

The New Robert D. Walter West Campus Initiative

Nick Savko & Sons, Inc. and Corna-Kokosing Construction have been working at a quick pace since late summer on the many elements of the Robert D. Walter West Campus initiative.

Exterior brickwork and structural changes are well underway on the future fitness and training center. Interior renovations will continue through the winter and into spring. Concrete curbs for the running track, its interior synthetic turf practice field and the campus’ parking lot are complete and workers have laid down the synthetic turf surface on the practice field. Workers are scheduled to put down the running track’s asphalt base – weather permitting – on Thursday or Friday.

Things are nearly complete along the west side of Alum Creek. The Horvath Parking Lot has been completed and Oakland Nursery has landscaped the area with mulch and planted numerous trees and bushes. The pedestrian bridge, set into place in August, will be ready for foot traffic in the coming week as the final sections of fencing are completed. A set of concrete stairs are now in place to provide access up the hill from the St. Charles parking lot to the bridge and adjacent bike trail.

2013 Reunion Planning Underway

In late October alumni director Louis J. Fabro ’83 will be sending survey letters to all those celebrating reunions this year. The 2013 Combined Class Reunion Celebration to be held September 6 &7, 2013 for the Classes of 1963 (Golden), 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988 (Silver), 1993, 1998, 2003 and 2008.

The role of the survey letter is to identify those who would like to volunteer to be a part of their reunion planning committee and which weekend activities they would like to see organized. Volunteers play a vital role in making the weekend event a success! Besides preparing a golf outing or formal dinner, volunteers help to directly contact classmates during the planning cycle. This personal classmate-to-classmate dynamic is THE KEY to a good turnout. If you have not received a survey letter and would like to volunteer your help please contact Louis by e-mail at lfabro@cdeducation.org  or by phone at 614-252-9288 ext. 21.

Louis will organize a general meeting for all class reunion organizational committee members in December.

Tentative Plans for the 2013 Summer Reunion Celebration include:

On Friday night, September 6, all classes are invited to the weekend’s Main Event: The All-Classes Stag “Beer-n-Brats” campus gathering from 6:00 – 11:00 p.m. in the Robert C. Walter Student Commons. As part of the festivities, attendees will also be provided tickets to that night’s Cardinal home football game at 7:30 p.m. against Eastmoor H.S, just a few feet away at Walt Plank Field. Earlier in the evening class photos will be taken and principal Jim Lower will give a “State of the School” update. On Saturday, September 7, there will be a morning bike ride along the Alum Creek Bike Trail, a campus tour from 3:00 – 4:15 p.m. and an All-Classes Mass in Mother of Mercy Chapel at 4:30 p.m. for alumni & spouses/guests.

2012-2013 Annual Fund Update

This year’s Annual Fund goal is to raise $1.5 million from alumni, parents of current students, and parents of SC alumni. The money raised by both the Alumni and Parent’s phases of the Annual Fund will be used for need-based tuition assistance, day-to-day school operations, maintenance of buildings and grounds, technology program improvements, and faculty recruitment and retention programs.

A heartfelt thank-you to all who have made a gift thus far and also to those who are considering Annual Fund support!

The Robert D. Walter West Campus Initiative Update

The Robert D. Walter West Campus project has moved along steadily thanks to Nick Savko & Sons, Inc., and Corna-Kokosing Construction. In May
20-ft. tall retaining wall and parking lot were completed along Alum Creek’s west bank on land donated by St. Charles Advisory Board member Tom Horvath ’65. Currently concrete supports are being poured on the east and west sides of Alum Creek for the pedestrian bridge which will be delivered mid-month and lowered into place by two giant cranes. Site development continues on the West Campus property in preparation for the construction of a running track, synthetic turf field and parking lot.

2011-2012 Annual Fund Update

According to 2011-2012 St. Charles Annual Fund chairman, Paul Heller ’82, and Parents Annual Fund co-chairs, Drs. Ken and Kathy Lutter, the school has received Annual Fund gifts and pledges valued at $1,978,246 through the end of December. We are grateful to these three fine people for helping St. Charles with its outreach for funding to help keep the traditions of SC alive and well, and our school moving forward.

This year’s Alumni Annual Fund is raising support for student financial aid and the ongoing effort of building the school’s endowments.

The Parents Annual Fund is raising support for the Robert D. Walter West Campus Initiative which will expand our current Broad Street campus footprint.
The centerpiece of this project is the Robert D. Walter West Campus, located on a school-purchased 6.2 acre site at the corner of Long St. and Nelson Rd., formerly the Dealers Lumber Co.  Work includes the construction of a new track, practice field, parking lot and weight-training facility. An additional 46-space parking area will be built on a parcel of donated land along the west bank of Alum Creek. To provide more convenient access between Main Campus and the new West Campus facilities, a 180 ft. long pedestrian bridge will be installed to span Alum Creek.

Visit our Facebook page(http://www.facebook.com/stcharlespreparatoryschool)  to view updates and photos as the project moves from demolition to
completion in the coming months.

Paul, Ken and Kathy ask you to please consider a gift if you have yet to make one this year.  All forms of charitable support for St. Charles are deeply appreciated. Thanks to the gifts from our alumni and parents, both current and past, nearly one third of our student body receives nearly $1.1 million in financial aid.  The beautiful buildings and grounds campus-wide remain in tip-top shape thanks to Annual Fund support.  If you would like to begin supporting St. Charles or continue your support to SC by giving online, please direct your Web browserto our secure online giving page on the St. Charles Website: www.stcharlesprep.org
