Richard R. Stedman '54 earned a Bachelor of
Science in business administration from Ohio State University
in 1958 with a major in accounting. He graduated in 1964 from
the Ohio State University College of Law, where he was a Mershon
Fellow, editor-in-chief of The Ohio State Law Journal
and member of the Order of Coif. After graduating from law school,
Stedman joined Vorys, Sater, Seymour & Pease, and becamea
partner in 1970, a position he maintained until retiring in
1998. Stedman was vital in the formation of The Foundation of
the Catholic Diocese of Columbus and served on its board of
trustees as chairman, president, secretary and counsel. Stedman
served in a leadership capacity for the Diocese of Columbus
Legacy of Catholic Learning by establishing a trust designated
for St. Charles student aid. Stedman is a Member Emeritus of
the St. Charles Advisory Board, served as chairman of the school's
1994 capital campaign, and maintains his service to the school
as a member of the development committee. Stedman has received
many distinguished honors for his service to the church and
fellow man. He is a Knight of the Order of Saint Gregory the
Great and is a knight commander with Star of the Equestrian
Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. In 1992, he was presented
the award Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (For the Church
and the Pope) by Pope John Paul II. Stedman and his wife, Libby,
have three children: Gretchen Kathleen, Rick '89 and Patrick
'97.
