Feast Day Honors

We extend our most sincere congratulations and appreciation to The Wenger Family and members of Wenger Temperature and Control, as well as the Evans Family and the staff at West-Camp Press, whom were honored on Wednesday, November 1, during the liturgy for the Feast of All-Saints in the Robert C. Walter Student Commons. (The St. Charles community usually gathers to commemorate the Feast of St. Charles Borromeo, November 4, but that date falls on a Saturday this year).

Mass was celebrated by Fr. Charles Klinger ’61 (Pastor of St. Paul the Apostle Parish) and concelebrated by Msgr. Bill Dunn ’57 (Assisting throughout the Diocese in “retirement”) and Fr. Bill Arnold ’70 (Pastor of Holy Spirit Parish and St. Mark’s Parish) with the assistance of Deacon Marion Smithberger ’72 (St. Timothy Parish). A light lunch reception catered by Bosc + Brie (owned by 1974 alumnus Bob Selhorst) followed in the Campus Theater’s Cavello Center.

More about those we honored:

The Borromean Medal for Service to St. Charles
St. Charles has been blessed to have had the generosity, involvement, and dedication of the Wenger Family and its company, Wenger Temperature Control (WTC), for more than 35 years. Established in 1977 by family patriarch Ed Wenger, the company provides heating, cooling and refrigeration service and installation. Today the company is run by brothers Joe and George ’85, and a third brother, Pete, is a 1983 alumnus. Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the company has earned numerous local and national awards.

In 1992, during the renovation of the Holy Angels Library, WTC introduced central heating and air conditioning to the space. For first time in the campus’ 80-year history, those amenities were added. Since then AC and heating units were added to the Campus Theater and Mother of Mercy Chapel. The most historic effort was accomplished during the construction of the Robert C. Walter Student Commons with the addition of air conditioning to the entire main building as well as the new construction. The project required drilling through nearly every wall located within the main building’s four floors. Hundreds of holes were created, thousands of feet of ductwork added, and numerous central
heating and cooling units were strategically placed in many locations.

Since these installations in 2006, WTC has spent countless hours on the school’s campus making sure all continues to work well. In addition to its commitment and service to St. Charles Preparatory School, WTC has also helped service numerous parishes throughout the Diocese of Columbus including the Chancery, St. Joseph Cathedral and many other diocesan buildings. The company is active in the community, assisting the Holy Family Soup Kitchen, St. Ladislas/ SVDP Food Pantry, Angels Nurture & Disciple, Pregnancy Decision Centers, A Kid Again, the Jubilee Museum, Unbound and The Brian Muha Foundation.

Joseph E. Wenger III is a 1983 graduate of Ohio University and the company’s first employee. He is a past president (2001-2003) of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America, Ohio Chapter and was inducted into the Central Ohio Air Conditioning Contractors of America Hall of Fame in 2007. Joe and his wife, Lisa, have been married since 1981and have two children, Joseph (St. Charles Class of 2003) and Alyssa (Fisher Catholic High School ’12). They are members of St. John XXIII Parish in Canal Winchester.
George, a 1985 St. Charles alumnus, graduated from Franklin University in 1990. He and his wife, Cristi, were married in July of 1992 and have three children: Hanna, Abigail and Zoe. He is a member of the Saint Catharine Knights of Columbus.

The Principal’s Award for Leadership and Service to St. Charles
The St. Charles Preparatory School is truly grateful to have had Ed and Ann Evans, along with his company, West-Camp Press, as major partners in developing St. Charles’ identifying brand. Under Ed’s leadership, the West-Camp team has contributed countless hours of graphic design, production, and execution for many strategic projects. The company’s initial work included athletic department support with banners and programs. In recent years, their efforts expanded to more strategic projects, including graphics for the Robert D. Walter West Campus facilities and the Jack Ryan Locker Room renovation. West-Camp was instrumental in branding the Walt Plank Stadium, including pole banners and bleacher graphics.

Outside of athletics, West-Camp provided consulting for the annual “Evening with…” event, helping to take its original vision and specialty-brand its identity, thus raising record funds that greatly benefit the St. Charles Endowment Fund and tuition assistance. The staff at West-Camp recently helped develop and create the seven-panel Wall of Honor which recognizes and honors St. Charles alumni “Who Have Served” in the U.S. military or as first responders. West-Camp also refreshed the marketing materials used by the Guidance and Development Offices as the school continues to invite young men to “Accept the Challenge” and raise awareness of the St. Charles mission.

Ed graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 1985. He spent 15 years at Eastman Kodak in various sales and sales management roles in Atlanta, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, and Chicago, before settling in Columbus in 1992. In 2000, Ed joined West-Camp Press, his long-time client, as Director of Business Development. He and his business partner, Dave Marsh, purchased the company in 2006. Under their leadership, West-Camp has evolved from a traditional offset printer to one of Ohio’s largest printing companies, providing offset, digital grand format, and marketing services. Currently, Ed serves on the Board of Directors for Students in Money Management (SIMM) for St. Bonaventure University. He is also active in the Printing Industries of America, is past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Printing Industries of Ohio and Northern Kentucky, and currently a member of its Central Advisory council.

Ed and his wife, Ann, have been married for 27 years and reside in Westerville where they are members of St. Paul the Apostle parish. Their two sons are both graduates of St. Charles, Eddie ’10 and Will ’13. Their daughter, Katie, is a 2015 graduate of St. Francis DeSales High School. Ed and Ann continue to be active supporters of St. Charles as members of the Cardinal Society and also provide design and print support for the annual Cardinal Christmas.

Congratulations, once again, the Evans Family and Wenger Family and their companies. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do on behalf of St. Charles Preparatory School!
