** In the 1880s, Jacob Riis took a camera into the tenements and dives of New York’s Lower East Side, showing the world “How the Other Half Lives” in his famous book. Born out of a haunting photograph, this play delves into the world of Mullen’s Alley, and the lives of a handful of kids who are ferociously determined to grow and live in spite of the many obstacles in their way. With wit, anger, and ingenuity, these immigrant children carve out lives for themselves as they interact uneasily with the intrusion of Riis and his omnipresent camera.

“I would like to thank all of you who have been so generous to us in the past and would like to welcome those of you who may be new to St. Charles Theater. This year, as in the past, we have an incredibly talented and dedicated group of young actors.  I hope you can also join us for our winter production, February 21-24 and our spring musical, May 2-5.  As I begin my 37th year as drama director at St. Charles, I hope to see you at our production of Mullen’s Alley and also hope to see your name or that of your company in our program.”

Thank you,

Doug Montgomery (Drama Director) [email protected]
