Congratulations to St. Charles senior Spencer Aurnou-Rhees for a remarkable journey this last week in which he proceeded all the way to the Wave II Preliminary Semifinals of the 200IM event at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, NE — achieving several milestones along the way!
He won his heat in the preliminaries on Thursday, June 17, but his time did not qualify him for the finals and a chance to go to Tokyo. However, having only recently turning 17, he recorded the 31st best time in his event, competing against the best swimmers in the United States, most college-age and older! Spencer now has the 35th fastest 200IM long course time for a 17-18 year-old in history.
He earned his trip to Omaha by finishing 2nd in the Championship final of the 200IM on June 8th at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials in Indianapolis. Click HERE to watch Spencer’s performance and post-heat interview… https://www.facebook.com/lisa.rhees.9/videos/1876887359143347
WE look forward to a great year ahead of awards and accomplishments as a member of the SC Swim Team!!
Congratulations again, Spencer!
