— Help St. Charles recognize and honor those graduates who have, and continue to, “Serve and Protect” us —
In early fall, St. Charles will pay tribute to all those graduates, both living and deceased, who have “Served and Protected” us as a current or former member of the United States Armed Forces and/or as a “First Responder” (Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement). Just about a week ago the school mailed out a letter to all its alumni for whom we have a mailing address (a little more than 4,000). Our goal is two-fold:
First, we need your help as we create a list of all ALUMNI, living or deceased, going all the way back to our first graduating class in 1927, who are presently, or have served in any of the following: the five branches of the Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard), as a police officer/in law enforcement, as a firefighter and/or EMS personnel. Are you one? Do you know of any classmates of yours who served/currently serves? If so, we want to know so we can make sure their name is on this special list.
Second, we want to invite you, along with all other alumni (and spouses), especially “Those Who Have Served,” to a special afternoon ceremony and reception we are holding on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium. Also on hand to help us recognize and honor all those Carolians who have “Served” will be the St. Charles student body, faculty and staff. Included in the program will be a special presentation by Major Dan Rooney, an Air Force fighter pilot and the founder of the Folds of Freedom Foundation. If a service honoree wishes to do so, we would be proud if he attended in uniform. All are invited to a reception with refreshments and appetizers afterward.
In addition, the school will also be unveiling a permanent “Wall of Honor” listing all these men by name, class year and service. To be located along the northwest wall of the school’s main hallway, it is designed to be updated each year as more alumni join these ranks and as we learn of others whose names might be missing.
Some of you have already heard about our efforts and shared information about your service or that of a classmate.or even already signed up for the September 7th gathering.thank you! But we know there are more of you out there who we haven’t yet learned about.
So.are you a graduate who has served in one of these roles? Does/did your alumnus father, grandfather or son serve in the Armed Forces, in law enforcement, on a city’s firefighting force or with EMS? Do you know of a fellow St. Charles classmate who currently or previously served in one of these professions or a branch of the U.S. Military? If so, we want you to contact us – so that we can reach out to them to receive a special invitation to our September appreciation event. We also want you to join us to help honor these brave and loyal Carolians, many of whom insist that it was their honor to serve their country.
Please contact me, Louis J. Fabro ’83, at [email protected] or 614-252-9288 ext. 21 with alumni names for our “Wall of Honor” and what information you have on their service. We also hope to receive your RSVP to be there in person on September 7th!
Thank you for your help. and thank you to our Heroes!
— the Cardinal alumni magazine wants to hear from YOU!!! —
As you read this, alumni director Louis J. Fabro ’83 is working diligently on the Fall 2017 edition of the Cardinal magazine. For the magazine’s Alumni News and Alumni Notes sections, Louis would like to report on alumni retirements, degrees and honors earned, or other special items to share with the St. Charles Community. He also highly encourages submissions to include photos-but PLEASE NOTE: Photos taken on cellphones, no matter how great they look on your phone, computer display or Facebook post, are too small (in PIXELS) to reproduce in our publications-so please send me photos taken on digital cameras.
