— “What’s New(s) with St. Charles Alumni?” on SC Facebook Page —
St. Charles alumni director Louis J. Fabro ’83 is looking for items to post in the “May” installment of “What’s New(s) with St. Charles Alumni?” on the St. Charles Facebook page (

Our goal by adding this semi-annual post is to share fun, positive and inspiring alumni updates and photos in a more timely manner, as the Cardinal alumni magazine is only published once a year. We’ll keep our eyes open here at school… but Louis invites and encourages alumni, parents and friends to e-mail him at with photos and items you learn about a work promotion or recognition, career move or accomplishment, a wedding or the birth of a child, a well-earned retirement, a son’s first job out of college, a classmate’s recognition for service to his church and community…we want to hear about it and share it with everyone else!
—2015 Combined Reunion: “Save-the-Date” Card Being Mailed —
The 2015 Combined Class Reunion Celebration will be held September 4-6, 2015 with the Classes of 1965, 1970, 1975, 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005 and 2010. Next week Alumni Director Louis J. Fabro ’83 is sending out a postcard to members of all reunion classes announcing each class’ private activities as well as those being organized by the school. Tentative plans for the 2015 Summer Reunion Celebration include:

On Friday, September 4th, all reunion alumni are invited to the weekend’s main event: The All-Classes Stag “Beer-n-Brats” gathering from 6:00 – 11:00 p.m. in the Robert C. Walter Student Commons. As part of the festivities, attendees will also be provided tickets to the Cardinal’s home football game vs. Reynoldsburg High School that night (7:00 p.m. kick-off) just a few feet away at Walt Plank Field. Earlier in the evening class photos will be taken and Principal Jim Lower will give a “State of the School” update.

On Saturday, September 5th, there will be a morning bike ride along the Alum Creek Bike Trail at 9:00 a.m., a campus tour from 3:00 – 4:15 p.m. and an All-Classes Mass in Mother of Mercy Chapel at 4:30 p.m. for alumni & spouses/guests. Afterward, classes will organize their own private dinner gatherings if they wish to meet.

On Sunday, September 6th, the school’s Alumni Association will sponsor the annual St. Charles Alumni Golf Outing at Clover Valley Golf Club in Johnstown for ALL alumni, not just reunion attendees, to participate in.
In addition, the Class of 1955 will celebrate its 60-year reunion the weekend of July 10, 11 and 12 with golf Saturday morning and Mass in the afternoon followed by dinner at The Athletic Club or Lindey’s Restaurant. There will be brunch at a classmate’s home Sunday. The Class of 1960 is in the process of exploring its options…

The 2015 Platinum Reunion is being held this June 17th. The “Platinum” event annually invites back to campus all alumni who have graduated 51 years ago or longer for Mass, a complimentary luncheon, a group photo and tours.

— St. Charles to Host the Aquinas College High School Alumni Association for lunch in May —

St. Charles is proud to once again host the Aquinas College High School May Alumni Association’s May meeting in the Robert D. Walter Student Commons at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 4th. St. Charles has enlisted the talents of Aquinas grad Jimmy Corrova (AQ ’53), owner of T.A.T. Ristorante di Famiglia, who will cater the event. Our thanks, also, to Aquinas Alumni Association president, Lou Nobile (AQ ’57), for his help in coordinating this visit.

At last year’s meeting nearly 80 “Terriers” attended as well as 16 St. Charles students who were receiving funds from the Father John R. Smith Aquinas Alumni Scholarship.
That fund supports both financial aid and academic scholarships earned through exceptional performance in grade school and on the St. Charles Scholarship Test. The fund was established in 1987 by James K. Williams, Jr. (AQ ’49) and fellow Aquinas alumni, to honor the memory of Fr. Smith, the legendary Aquinas teacher and disciplinarian.

The two schools will gather again in late July– this time in the spirit of BOTH camaraderie AND competition. The 9th Annual “Aquinas College High School & St. Charles Preparatory School Golf Challenge” will be held at The Highlands Golf Course in Pataskala on Friday, July 31st. This event is open to former students and alumni of both schools who graduated before 1965 (the year Aquinas closed its doors). Enjoy the spirited competition that reflects the camaraderie and the mutual respect shared between friends and members of each school! The format consists of foursomes of two-man teams playing a best-ball “Ryder Cup” style format. Contact alumni director Louis J. Fabro ’83 if you’re interested in attending (

— Drama Department to Present Spring Musical “Jungalbook” April 30th – May 3rd —

The St. Charles Preparatory School Drama Department is proud to announce that its spring production, the Central Ohio premiere of Jungalbook, will be presented Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, April 30, May 1 & 2 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 3 at 3:00 p.m. in the St. Charles Campus Theatre. Adult tickets are $10 each, and student tickets are $5 each. Reservations may be placed by calling the St. Charles main office at 614-252-6714 between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

An evocative tale of loyalty, belonging and courage, adapted by Edward Mast and based on the Mowgli stories of Rudyard Kipling, Jungalbook brings to life characters both contemporary and timeless. This creative intertwining of the exotic jungle and the intense street life of the city was awarded the Distinguished Play Award by the American Alliance for Theatre and Education.

Faithfully adapted from Kipling’s 1894 Nobel Prize-winning “The Jungle Book” and its sequel, Mast’s adaptation was first performed in 1982. It aims to bring Kipling’s timeless stories and poems to life with a contemporary spin. The familiar story of Mowgli the “mancub” (senior Nick Anderson) —raised by Akela the wolf (senior Matt MacManus), tutored by Baloo the bear (junior Bemnet Negatu) and protected by Bagheera the panther Grove City High School sophomore Natalie Belford) —climaxes in the final showdown with Sherakhan the tiger (junior Nick Martin). Along the way, Mowgli learns the laws of the jungle and the price paid for breaking them. Unlike some popular film versions, this adaptation adheres closely to Kipling’s stories and captures the poetic spirit of the original tale.
