November

November 1. A sigh of relief for many high school seniors and their college counselors. Now that the applications are submitted, students may feel like their part is done. However, there are a few things that seniors and their families need to check off of their to-do lists in the coming months.
November 1. A sigh of relief for many high school seniors and their college counselors. Now that the applications are submitted, students may feel like their part is done. However, there are a few things that seniors and their families need to check off of their to-do lists in the coming months.
  1. Financial aid. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is open. The form is simplified and can incorporate IRS information of parents. Although this form is optional, 80% of seniors in the Class of 2022 completed this form. If you question whether to complete the form, please reach out to your counselor.
  2. Visits. It’s never too late to visit a campus. As your admission decisions roll in, it’s a good idea to consider a first, second, or even third visit to a campus. On many occasions, colleges allow admitted students to dive a bit deeper into the visit: perhaps allowing them to spend the night on campus, sit in on a class, or meet with professors on campus. These visits can be done now through the end of your senior year.
  3. PORTALS. This is a key point that many students miss. Although the Common Application helps organize your applications into one location, each college will have a portal that you will eventually need to access. This portal information will include a university email address, access to housing and other important forms, along with key information that you need to enroll at a college. PLEASE make sure you check these portals at least once a week until you make your final decision.
  4. Continued communication. Please continue to communicate with the college counseling office. There will be many more questions that arise after deadlines are past, and we would love to help you navigate the next part of your journey!
