Swim Team Third at Division I State Meet

Louis Fabro
Congratulations to the St. Charles swimming program (and Coach Kyle Goodrich '95) for having solidified its status as one of the top teams -- not only in Central Ohio, but the entire state. On Saturday, February 23rd, the Cardinals placed third (205 pts.) at the 2024 OHSAA State Division I Swim meet with championships in three events. They finished behind only runners-up Upper Arlington (229 pts.) and first-place Cincinnati St. Xavier, which won its 44th boys state title with 302 points.
Sophomores Austin Carpenter and Jake Loyd, were two of the top swimmers at the meet. Carpenter was state champion in the 100 breaststroke (54.31) and Lloyd won the state championship in the 50 free (20.28). The two also swam on the State Championship 200 medley relay team that included Wyatt Julian ’25 and Andrew Zarick ’25.

St. Charles swimmers finished as state runners-up in two other events: Carpenter was second in the 200 free (1:36.21) by 0.08 of a second behind St. Xavier’s Thackston McMullen. Carpenter finished 2nd in the 200y Free event.

But there were also great "Top 15" finishes in a number of other events: Top 16 Finishes: 100 Back (Julian, 4th), 400 Free Relay (Julian, Jonathan Malouf ’26, Zarick, King, 7th), 100 Butterfly (Julian, 7th), 100 Free (Lloyd, 5th and King, 10th), 500 Free (Ayden ’26, 15th).
