Established in the spring of 2005 by the St. Charles Advisory Board, this award recognizes alumni who have honored St. Charles Preparatory School by their outstanding volunteer activities, professional achievements, and community-organization advocacy. They have shared their affection for the St. Charles community and been shining examples of high moral and ethical standards.
Here are the accolades read at this morning’s Mass as to why each was chosen to receive this “‘distinguished” honor:
Robert E. Cull, Class of 1963
With this honor we wish to acknowledge the professional reputation he earned and the service he performed, over his three decade career as a member of the Bexley Police Department. As a Sergeant on its police force, Bob rightfully received numerous commendations and awards throughout his career.
He has maintained high professional and ethical standards in the performance of his duties, placing his own life at risk every day to insure that people could live and work in a safe, friendly, secure community.
We especially want to share our sincere appreciation for the service Bob has provided his alma mater and the entire St. Charles community over those years, helping to manage the flow of traffic and safely watching over and protecting students, parents, alumni and guests at hundreds of St. Charles community events.
He has truly been a shining example for others to see and follow, but we also acknowledge the quiet and anonymous generosity he has shown and selfless volunteer work he has done on behalf of those in the Bexley community.
Bob has done these acts without desire for any kind of public recognition or thanks. He is truly a special example of serving as “his brother’s keeper.”
Mr. John C. Ryan, Jr., Class of 1974 and Mr. Timothy M. Ryan, Class of 1975.
These men are being honored by St. Charles for their numerous professional accomplishments and the successes they have achieved in the last 35 years in the investment profession, during which time they have earned the respect of colleagues, clients, and the public through their work with The Merrill Lynch Company.
We appreciate their past and continuing service in helping guide the St. Charles Endowment Fund through many challenges and uncertainties so that it has reached the unprecedented height of close to $16 million dollars. Their work has impacted the lives of hundreds of young men to date, and will be life-transforming for so many more in the future. They are special examples of serving as “their brother’s keeper.”
We admire the exceptional example they have provided– not just in their involvement in numerous organizations, both civic and Church-related, but in the generosity they have shown our school, especially evident in the establishment of The John C. Ryan, Jr. ’74 and Timothy M. Ryan ’75 Scholarship Endowment Fund.
The Mass was celebrated by Fr. Vincent Nguyen, who is serving the parishes of Corpus Christi, St. Ladislas and St. Mary’s here in Columbus. Afterward, honorees and guests enjoyed a light breakfast catered by Bosc + Brie, in the “St. Charles Advisory Board Emeritus Conference Room” in the Student Service & Fine Arts Center’s Guidance Suite.
We wish to once again extend our most sincere thanks and appreciation to these three alumni for all they have done on behalf of our St. Charles Preparatory School and Central Ohio communities. We are very proud of you, Loyal Carolians!
