Chess Team Wins State Competition

The St. Charles Chess Team had great success at a state tournament hosted by the Ohio Chess Association,
handily winning the team championship in the Premier Division (6 teams, 36 players) last weekend.
The event, for high school and middle school chess competitors, was held  at the International Exposition Center on May 6th & 7th.

Junior Adam Ryzenga finished in first place overall with a near perfect score of five wins and one draw. Freshman Chuck Probst finished in 3rd place while his classmate, Jack Bakhshi, took 5th place.

This concludes the chess season in which the team won a remarkable six out of seven tournaments.

Congratulations to the team and to the individual winners. The chess club will resume in early September.
