Bishop Dedicates Brotherhood Center To Start Off New School Year

St. Charles celebrated the completion of its new Brotherhood Center, on August 22. Bishop Earl Fernandes visited campus to serve as the main celebrant of an all-school mass which was followed by the facility's dedication and blessing.

Two St. Charles alumni, Bob Corna '63 and Brent Foley '98 worked closely together as the designer and architect of this new 30,000 square feet facility.  The four-story center is built over the footprint of the old gymnasium. Its bottom floor has a "student-union" ambience that provides spaces for large groups and small gatherings, as well as flexible learning areas. This includes an amphitheater, large comfortable sitting areas, a library, school store, cafe, and library.

The 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors are designed for learning spaces that support the school's academic curriculum.
The building and its additional new classrooms and labs come at an opportune time for St. Charles, with the largest freshman class (225 students) and overall enrollment numbers (678 students) in the school's history.

The Brotherhood Center is the most recent facet of the school's ongoing Vision for the Future: Building Leaders for the Next 100 Years Campaign. It now serves as the keystone between the Robert D. Walter Student Commons (2006), Campus Theater Building (1940) and Cavello Center (1998), and the Main Building (1925) to the south; the Frank E. Murphy Convocation Center (1923) to the west; and to the Rose and Dedger Jones Natatorium (1990) and Walt Plank Field and athletic complex (2008) to the north. At the center of the St. Charles campus, drawing all these elements together, is a beautiful central plaza with paved areas, walkways, and resting areas along with a beautified Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto with its two waterfalls and landscaped areas for reflection (2023).
