Retired US Navy SEAL Lieutenant Jason Redman delivered the tenth installment of the school’s annual “An Evening With…” series in front of more than 500 guests on October 8. The audience was captivated hearing the dramatic personal experience he endured, the power of human resiliency to OVERCOME adversity, and the encouragement to LIVE LIFE GREATLY.

In September 2007, while acting as Assault Force commander on an operation to capture an Al Qaeda high-value individual in Iraq, Redman’s assault team came under heavy fire. He was shot several times, including on the right side of his face, entering his jaw and exiting through his nose. He would go on to endure nearly 40 surgeries and returned to duty before retiring in 2013.

Redman told the audience that the greatest lesson we can learn is that we have the ABILITY TO ENDURE THROUGH ANY PAIN AND DISCOMFORT. "Maybe you are going through something you think you can’t go through any longer. You want to reduce the pain and suffering, anxiety and adversity, but the greatest ability you have is to endure and overcome,” he said.

The evening’s program included the presentation of the flags of the United States Armed Forces and the performance of the school’s Alma Mater and the Armed Forces Medley by the school’s chorus. Berwick Manor and its staff served a delicious plated dinner for all those in attendance.

The school extends its sincere appreciation and thanks to “An Evening With…” this year’s main hosts, Renee and Paul ’82 Heller. The annual event, established by 1963 St. Charles alumnus Bob Walter and his wife, Peggy, was created to bring to campus speakers who offer insight into thought-provoking topics.

Since 2015, the event has played a vital role in supporting St. Charles through the school’s endowment fund, by helping provide tuition assistance and strengthening its ability to recruit and retain outstanding faculty and staff.
