Study Habits

October. Beautiful weather. Leaves changing. Quarter ending. Even though the weather outside is certainly changing for the better, the end of the quarter can bring some stress and tension. Below are some ways to prepare yourself ahead of time to help ease the stress.
  1. Schedule out your week on Sundays. Take time on Sunday afternoon or evening to plan your week. Try your best to stick with your plan, even if other things come up. Use a calendar, planner, or whiteboard to write out everything.
  2. Establish a plan. What is your plan and how will you track your week? A calendar, a notebook, an electronic calendar with notifications, or something else?
  3. Schedule time for yourself. It can be hard to get into the grind and forget to recenter yourself. Schedule time to work out, take a walk, or spend time with family and friends. It can help to reset your brain to work more efficiently when it comes time to study.
  4. Ask for help. We know this is hard to do. You want to be able to do it all on your own. The great thing about high school is that you have a team of people who are here to help you. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or behind, speak to your parents, teachers, counselors, or the LFC to get back on track.
  5. One bad quarter doesn’t blow the whole year. If your grades in first quarter don’t quite land where you want them to, recenter at the beginning of the second quarter. What can you do differently to improve your grades? How else can you succeed?
